Score one task before you build

Write one task in the blank. Score each row from 0 to 2. Use the total to decide whether this is a good first AI workflow.

Task I want AI to help with:

Total

Question 0 points 1 point 2 points Score
Does it repeat? One-time or rare. Monthly or occasional. Weekly, daily, or common. 0 1 2
Does it cost time? Already quick. Annoying but not urgent. Regularly slows you down. 0 1 2
Is the data safe? Private or sensitive. Can be cleaned up. Public, general, or fictional. 0 1 2
Are inputs clear? You do not know what AI needs. Some inputs are known. Trigger, facts, and examples are clear. 0 1 2
Can you review it? You cannot judge accuracy. You can check most of it. You know exactly what to verify. 0 1 2
Does it have a finish line? No clear output. Output is rough. Draft, checklist, reply, post, table, or summary. 0 1 2

What the score means

9-12: Build this in class.
This is a strong first AI workflow. It repeats, saves time, and has a clear review point.
6-8: Shrink it first.
Pick one smaller output, remove private details, or make the review step clearer.
0-5: Do not start here.
This is too sensitive, vague, risky, or hard to review for a beginner workshop.

Good first tasks

  • Answer a common customer question.
  • Draft one Google Business Profile post.
  • Rewrite one service description.
  • Turn messy notes into a checklist.
  • Draft a quote follow-up.

Bad first tasks

  • Payroll, legal, medical, or tax decisions.
  • Automatic customer replies with no review.
  • Uploading private customer records.
  • Inventing prices, guarantees, or policies.
  • Connecting tools before the manual version works.

Turn it into a workflow

  • Trigger: What starts it?
  • Inputs: What facts are needed?
  • Draft: What does AI create?
  • Review: What must a human approve?
  • Destination: Where does it go?

My first AI workflow candidate

Trigger: When does this task start?
Information needed: What should I gather before asking AI?
AI draft: What should AI produce first?
Human review: What facts, tone, promises, dates, prices, or private details must I check?
